About Us
|
In 1986 the Montessori Country Day School began with a preschool program in Paxton,
MA, and later moved to Holden, MA, in 1993. Our school has been in business for twenty-two years. The preschool program is designed for children between the ages of two years nine months and six years old. The environment is created to foster basic trust, exploration, curiosity, problem solving, and independence. Our community is a safe and nourishing environment for children to explore, make choices, solve problems and work at his or her own pace while with others or alone. Preschool students from the Montessori Country Day School consistently perform at higher levels in reading, arithmetic, geography, history and other subjects
than the greater majority of students entering into 1st grade. This success is specifically attributed to a small class size and focused attention to individual development.

Through principals of learning developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, our teachers focus on developing a child's full potential across all areas of life. The activities and lessons at our Montessori school promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, decision making, and cognitive thinking to help foster the development of well-rounded children. The community of our school helps students develop self-esteem by encouraging them to make decisions and become problem solvers in their daily lives.
Through observation of young children's behavior, Dr. Maria Montessori developed the philosophy that children learn best within an environment that supports their unique individual development. At our school, children are encouraged to take care of their surroundings and have respect for others. Values such as grace and courtesy are taught and developed.
Each year our diverse community brings together children and families of different ethnicities, races and religions. Our teachers serve as guides and facilitators of a creative education by introducing learning tools, activities and lessons to students. Gradually starting with simplistic work, children move toward more challenging lessons at their own pace. Our teachers direct activities and inspire interest in learning, while children are motivated through
their work to stay focused on a given task. Through guidance, encouragement and self-direction, our Montessori community builds a child's foundation for success for all their future endeavors.
